Port Mansfield 8/26-27

NO PICS–It has been such a slow year I haven't bothered to carry a camera.I finally had a trip worth posting–it has been a tough year for me in PM. We got out early Sun morning and started off fishing in 2' of water and had a pretty active hour or so with 10+ trout and 3 from 18-21 all on tops. We moved a little deeper in hopes of some bigger fish and got into a good redfish bite on gulps landing 5 in the next hour or so (all 22-26″)–then the **** ladyfish moved in and they were so thick we couldn't get our lures past them so we moved on. We didn't have much luck for the next 2 hours so we headed in and as we crossed the intercoastal there were some fish tearing up the surface. We stop and toss out a few skitterwalks and both hook up with big fish within seconds. I almost get spooled and figure out pretty quickly that it's a jack–fun but not what I was hoping for. My buddy fights his for 20 minutes and we get a glimpse and it's a bull red–we get it to the boat and land it it-37″. We get back after it and land 2 more jacks before they disappear. We called it a morning and headed in about 12. We fished the evening from 6-8:30 and caught 8 or so trout from 16-20″ and 1 red -26″. Woke up the next morning to rain so we slept in a little. We headed out about 7 and had similar success with several good trout and one 26″ that was a pig for this time of year–almost 6.5 lbs on the boga. We were chased off by thunderstorms about 9:30 but it was nice to get home a little early.
We kept a few reds for ceviche and 1/2 dozen trout. The rest were set free to fight another day.
