What an Endorsement — March 28, 2011
How can one express their appreciation to Sport Fishing Magazine? Sport Fishing named us 1 of the top 5 Lodges in North America. Only two Lodges in the Untied States were named, others were from other counties. When Field and Stream named us one of the top 10 we couldn’t believe it! What a standard we must live up too. After 12 years we have been blessed with continued support by such publishers as Sport Fishing and many more. It has and will continue to be our Mission Statement to provide the most professional operation possible.
Enough!!! Let’s talk fishing…
What can I say, but what a ride we have had the last three weeks. Fishing has been the best we have seen the last 8 years with GOOD QUALITY trout and reds.
As referenced in my last report as a guide you have to be careful not to become too COCKY! Five fish WORKED!!! Ask any guide down here.
Days when the wind lays down its nothing but Top Water time. Windy days force us to go to plastic. Fishing is good both windy and calm, only issue with the lack of grass our water does stain quickly. Off color water does not really slow the fishing much. The fish are still there and have to eat The bay is just not the clear beautiful Laguna we have all grown to love. We have picked up one foot plus of new Gulf water and it have really helped to clear the bay.
Our go to baits have been bone chartreuse on clear days and darker colors when the water stains. Smaller top waters are your best bait with 1/16 oz, jig heads for your plastic. Fish are holding just about every where. If you catch a fish work the area over and it won’t take long to confirm there are more in the area.
Two weeks ago we had TPWD bring a tank down for us to help with providing brood stock for the Corpus hatchery. We were able in half a day to send with them 60 plus fish for hatchery stock and restocking purposes. Thanks to our guides who helped and TPWD staff for bringing the tanks and coolers for our use. More baby trout for our end of the coast. YEA HA!!!!!!
Remember what it was like three years ago, release the big mommas and only keep what you can eat. Its GETTING BETTER everyday.
