Fishing 08/07/10

I don't know,  the bite is awful slow compared to last year and the water down south smells pretty bad.  All i fish is artificial but have not been doing good.  At this point, thinking of heading north where salinity levels might be normal.  What do you all think?  Any opinions?  Captains?  Throw us lay people a bone. ???
